With just a week left of the summer 2013 transfer window, Torquay announce their last signing of the year. Having lost the services of two central defenders from last season, one out on a free transfer, and another a loan signing, the club had secured the signature of one new player for this position during pre-season trading.
After much scouting and false trails, with possible loan deals going sour, we are delighted to announce the signing of Álvaro Silva from Spanish club Xerez, for a fee of £120K. He is a very accomplished player with no real weaknesses, and should see plenty of first team action this year. His contract is a two year deal, and I believe he is the final piece of the jigsaw that we have been missing.
I now firmly believe we are set for the challenge ahead in the Championship, and with some luck, even manage a decent run in the cup competitions.

The main tactic I have deployed through my first season in charge at Torquay, has been the good old 4-4-2. These days the 4-4-2 is seen as a bit of a dinosaur and a relic, however in the lower leagues this is the most common formation because it seems to provide the framework around which [...]
That’s a good player indeed and quite a bargain for that kind of money, well done!

Thanks. I think he will play a big part for us, with 3 very strong central defenders, with another pretty decent for this level.
